What a difference a day makes...

Wow! Evie started a new preschool on Monday. Her old school was horrible--very negative environment with some questionable practices (and it was a CHRISTIAN SCHOOL!). I have to admit though, as the time drew closer for her to leave, I had some reservations about whether or not I was making the right decision...was the new school REALLY going to be a better environment, or did it just appear that way on the visit? Should I really take her out of a place that she knew so well and that SHE didn't seem to have a problem with? Would she adapt quickly to her new surroundings, or would each day at drop-off be a struggle until she adjusted?

Well, all my fears were for nothing, as I should have know they would be since I had invested so much prayer in this decision. Evie walked in on Monday morning confident and smiling. She struck up a conversation with the Preschool director immediately (she's usually quite shy around new people). And when I left, not a tear was shed. She just walked off to play like she'd been going there forever.

Pick-up on the last two days has shown just how necessary this change was for her...and what a difference there is between the two schools. In the past, our commutes home were almost painful. She would cry and scream at me the entire trip. Her first words to me in the afternoon were always to explain how she was put in time-out (for NOTHING) or how this kid/teacher did something not-so-nice to her. Well, now her first words when I walk in this new school are "MOMMY!" followed by a huge hug, and for the last two days, the trip home has been filled with the sounds of her singing happy songs and giggling and talking about playing hide-and-seek with her new friend Maddie. She is a different child! The teachers are WONDERFUL to her. I have overheard so many nice comments about Evie from them as well. They have really welcomed her with open arms and we are all so much the better for it!
