Ding, ding, ding...round three

Well, the second grading period is over for Kindergarten, so that means Parent-Teacher conference time. It was yesterday afternoon, and went pretty well. He LOVES math, so no surprise he is doing especially well there. Science and social studies are no problem either--he really likes non-fiction so those are right up his alley too. And although his reading scores went down with this new reading teacher, he still didn't do too badly. He still scored high enough in testing to be in the highest reading group. His biggest struggles in testing were picking up each individual sound and with spelling, and even those weren't that bad--he is expected to have a little trouble in those areas based simply on his speech impairment. And the grades were still high enough, despite all the trouble with incomplete class work, that we don't have to worry at this point. On the advise of a dear friend, and professional in the field of special education, we will be providing him a special silent timer that may at least temporarily alleviate the problem of unfinished work.

We did learn from the homeroom teacher that perhaps one of the reasons he sturggles to get done is that he has inherited that "perfection" gene from his parents. He does NOT like to be wrong, so when they are writing sentences, he will stop and wait patiently for someone to help him sound out the words rather than guess and risk being wrong. Good to know, now we can work on encouraging him to do his best and not worry about right and wrong. Overall, a glowing report! I'm so proud of him!!!

Now we just have to see how he does having his regular classroom (homeroom) teacher out for 6 weeks. She is expecting her first baby, due Thursday the 9th, so next Friday will be her last day unless the baby comes early. William is prepared for having a sub, but I am glad that his reading teacher will remain the same so that he has that consistency.
